Job Title: Administrative Clerk: Reporting to Manager, Customer Service & Underwriting
(Permanent Full-Time)

The Lawyers’ Professional Indemnity company is a Toronto-based, professional liability insurer with a mandate to provide quality insurance services to our insured lawyers. As part of achieving our mandate, we are currently recruiting for an Administrative Clerk.

The Administrative Clerk reports to the Manager, Underwriting and Customer Service Department and will provide administrative support to the Manager, Assistant Manager and Program Coordinators in the Department. This role will be responsible for, but not limited to, responding to inquiries from lawyers and law firm administrators (both via telephone and in writing), operating electronic mail systems, maintaining databases, running reports and creating action items, scanning and photocopying.

Job Location: Downtown Toronto

The ideal candidate should:

  • Have formal training in administrative skills, with a Community College/University graduate preferred;
  • Have a minimum of two (2) years experience working in an administrative role;
  • Have experience in dealing with professionals both by telephone and in writing;
  • Have good knowledge of all Microsoft office software with a minimum intermediate skill level in Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Have excellent knowledge of Lotus Notes;
  • Have excellent time management and organizational skills;
  • Have experience working in a team environment with many deadlines and a high volume of work;
  • Be proactive in her/his approach to work, with the ability to set priorities independently;
  • Have the ability to juggle multiple high priorities simultaneously;

Job Title: Claims Counsel: Reporting to Unit Director & Counsel
(Permanent Full-time)

We are currently seeking one Claims Counsel to join the LAWPRO claims team.

The Claims Counsel interacts with insured lawyers in investigating, evaluating, and resolving errors and omissions claims against them. They manage these claims in-house or direct external legal counsel and professionals in resolving them. Your responsibility as Claims Counsel will be to handle a caseload of files in a variety of areas of law. The ideal candidate will have between four or more years of experience in civil litigation, corporate/commercial, bodily injury, wills & estates, and/or real estate.

Job Location: Toronto

The ideal candidate should:

  • have four or more years of experience in civil litigation, corporate/commercial, bodily injury, wills & estates, and / or real estate;
  • In-house insurance industry experience would be an asset;
  • be able to identify and implement file strategy in conjunction with external counsel and the insured, and revise
  • strategy where necessary to achieve desired outcome;
  • take a proactive and creative approach to claims handling;
  • be keen to develop expertise in many areas of law, including insurance coverage;
  • have strong organizational skills and the ability to meet demanding deadlines;
  • make effective use of technology;
  • be licensed and in good standing as a lawyer in Canada;
  • embrace the vision, values and goals for the company as a whole;
  • French language skills would be an asset;

Job Title: IT Service Desk Analyst: Reporting to Operations Manager

LAWPRO has an immediate opening for an IT Service Desk Analyst to support its internal service desk function.

Key Responsibilities:

Working under the direction of the Operations Manager, you will act as the first point of contact for end users to receive technology support;

Respond quickly and professionally to requests received through the IT ticketing system;

Collaborate with end users and technology staff to identify and troubleshoot PC and IP telephony related issues;

Assist in onboarding new employees from a technology perspective (e.g. user account creation, rights assignment);

Participate in the installation and maintenance of all PC hardware, software, and other related equipment; and

Maintain a knowledge repository to capture resolution efforts.

Job Location: Downtown Toronto

The ideal candidate should:

  • Be experienced using common IT Service Desk tools (e.g. Service Now, Remedy);
  • Have in-depth knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and Windows 7/10 operating systems;
  • Possess knowledge of basic networking troubleshooting concepts;
  • Have understanding and experience isolating hardware issues and coordinating replacements;
  • Have experience utilizing desktop imaging tools and techniques (e.g. Ghost, Macrium);
  • Have knowledge of mobile devices, management tools and techniques;
  • Have knowledge of ITIL principles (e.g., change management, incident management); and
  • Have knowledge of BlackBerry, Android, and iOS operating systems.
It is preferred that the candidate:

Have experience in any of the following technologies: Lotus Notes, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT), VMware, System Center, McAfee EPO, Citrix, and Cisco IP Telephony;
Have a College diploma and/or University degree in a relevant area (preferred);
Have demonstrated ability and passion to learn new technologies;
Be in pursuit of education/certification and preservation of knowledge in relevant areas of skill;
Is adaptable, flexible and able to accept change;
Have strong communication skills (speaking and writing) with a “client service” attitude in order to provide effective phone, desk-side, and email support; and
Is able to meet physical demands - lifting and/or carrying ability of 15-30 lbs. or more.

The Lawyers’ Professional Indemnity company is a Toronto-based, professional liability insurer with a mandate to provide quality insurance services to our insured lawyers. As part of achieving our mandate, we are currently recruiting for a Program Coordinator.

The role of the Program Coordinator is to provide written and verbal information on the insurance program to the members of the legal profession. The information the Program Coordinator provides includes: information concerning insurance coverages for the lawyer, account information on premiums, and information on additional programs such as risk management. The successful candidate will be proficient in English (French is an asset) and will receive intensive training about the program and the Company before answering any calls from the public.

The ideal candidate should:

  • Have at least 2 years experience providing customer service in a call centre environment;
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Have experience in Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Have experience working in a team environment and in stressful situations;
  • Have a proactive approach to work;

Job Title: Quality Assurance Analyst: Reporting to Project Manager
(15 Month Contract)

The Quality Assurance Analyst is responsible for applying the principles and practices of software quality assurance throughout the LAWPRO’s software development life cycle. Reporting to the Project Manager, this role will operate with the constructs of our "Agile" development environment, and will join in the shared responsibility of ensuring our corporate software - including in-house developed applications as well as "off-the-shelf" software - works according to expected standards of quality including reliability, usability, performance, integration, consistency, and security.

Job Location: Toronto

The ideal candidate should:

  • KEY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Have at least 5-8 years of experience in hands-on functional, exploratory and automated testing.
  • Possess a strong background in testing in an Agile environment and experience in releasing product in short cycles.
  • Have know-how in evolving testing strategies that involve third party applications and legacy databases.
  • Have the ability to review and analyze the business requirements and user stories to validate the testability and identify the testing requirements.
  • Have expertise in triaging failures, identifying root-cause, and defining corrective actions at project level.
  • Be able to collaborate with software/systems personnel in application testing, such as system, regression, performance, and acceptance testing methods.
  • Have the aptitude to determine the feasibility of automating test scripts along with their benefit to the project.
  • Have superior documentation skills with regards to writing test scenarios and recording defects.
  • Be adept at managing test cases and defects to closure.
  • Possess excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Be comfortable working in a small, lean team, and in a collaborative, professional environment.
  • Have an interest in business domain and key business drivers influencing quality of software applications.
  • Be a self-starter, self-motivated and highly energetic person.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience testing functionally complex products in legal, insurance and/or financial services industry, understanding of end-to-end flow for one or more products.
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Exposure to Java based projects/programs/products.
  • Exposure to Test Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) environment.
  • Experience with JIRA, testing and scripting tools.
  • NICE TO HAVE:
  • Notions of configuration management, like SVN.
  • Familiarity with automated deployment processes.
  • A track-record of innovation in testing.

Job Title: Receptionist: Reporting to Director, Human Resources & Administration
(Permanent – Full Time)

The role of the Receptionist is to respond to and appropriately redirect incoming telephone calls and to greet and assist clients, suppliers and the public when they arrive at LAWPRO. This position also provides general administrative support as required, including ordering supplies, maintaining/updating telephone lists, entering data into Excel spreadsheets, working on Word documents, developing and posting reception coverage duty, couriering, assisting with mailings, etc.

Job Location: Downtown Toronto

The ideal candidate should:

  • have prior work experience as a receptionist, preferably in a professional environment;
  • have good knowledge of Microsoft Office software package, computer systems, and Lotus Notes;
  • have good typing speed and accuracy;

Job Title: Underwriting Counsel: Reporting to Vice President, Underwriting (VPU)
(Permanent Full-time)

As Underwriting Counsel at LAWPRO your responsibilities will include underwriting activities with respect to LAWPRO’s primary and excess professional liability insurance programs, playing a key role on risk management projects such as corporate insurance and reinsurance purchases and contract management, assisting annually with various Executive, Board and Committee Reports, policy drafting and coverage analysis, creating and maintaining guidelines and records, representing LAWPRO by giving presentations and drafting articles on underwriting issues, and undertaking special projects as assigned. The Underwriting Counsel will be a valued professional with both legal knowledge and insurance experience for the Underwriting and Customer Service Department, as well as for other departments within LAWPRO.
