who have renewed their coverage for 2018 and pay their annual premiums in full, by cheque or by providing pre-authorized banking information,
dated and received by LAWPRO on or before February 6/18 are entitled to claim the early payment discount. Deduct $54 per insured LAWYER from the
invoiced amount - $50 for the discount and $4 for PST.
The 'No Application Surcharge' has been applied to your account because we did not receive your completed application by the specified deadline. This surcharge was authorized by Convocation pursuant to Rule 50 of section 62(1) of the Law Society Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. L. 8 in September, 1996 and became effective January 1, 1997 (for updated information on the Law Society’s requirements with respect to indemnity for professional liability, please see By-law 6 of the Law Society Act). The amount of the surcharge is 30 per cent of the base premium.
As the insurance program is mandatory, Convocation preferred not to require that an application form be filed but determined that those LAWYERS who elected not to file within the prescribed time would be required to pay an increased premium that is commensurate with the risk that they represent under the program. When the historical loss costs of those who elected not to file completed application forms was compared to those who did, it was determined that those electing not to file a completed application form represented a 44 per cent greater exposure to loss under the program. Convocation and LAWPRO preferred to moderate the amount of the surcharge to 30 per cent of the base premium to reflect this greater exposure.
If you would like LAWPRO to consider removing the surcharge from your account, you must submit a completed application form along with a specific written request to [email protected] (including the reason why the application was not filed in a timely manner). The request is then forwarded to a committee which reviews your file and considers any extenuating circumstances which may explain why your application was not filed before the deadline. It is the committee's decision whether or not to waive the surcharge based on the facts of the particular situation.

www.lawpro.ca. Simply log in to our secure site using your Law Society of Ontario number
and your personal password and click on Primary Policy Docs and then choose the applicable year (e.g. 2009 Policy Documents).
If you wish to pay your insurance premium by credit card (in monthly or quarterly instalments or by lump sum), you must log into your secure MY LAWPRO account at lawpro.ca to enter the credit card details , as LAWPRO is unable to accept credit card information (such as a credit card number or an updated expiry date) via email, fax or regular mail.
If the credit card is owned by a third party, other than another LAWYER or PARALEGAL PARTNER OR SHAREHOLDER in the law firm, the law firm itself, or a management or other company of the law firm, you must obtain the consent of the third party authorizing the transaction and providing for the use and disclosure of personal information, in accordance with provincial privacy legislation.
A third party includes the spouse of the applicant LAWYER or the spouse of another LAWYER in the firm; a non-lawyer employee of the law firm; or any other third party. This third party authorization will apply to future policy years, unless LAWPRO is advised in writing otherwise.
LAWPRO requires that you provide explicit written instructions([email protected]) to either re-run the payment using the existing credit card or banking information that LAWPRO has on file, or provide LAWPRO with alternate payment instructions.
The option to pay by instalments is only available with a valid credit card or chequing account for automatic payments to be
debited. You must file a Premium Payment Authorization form
with LAWPRO Customer Service, for a new credit card or chequing account.
If changes are to be made to the payment information or instalment payment option, LAWPRO must be advised in writing ([email protected]) of such changes at least ten (10) days prior to any payment date.
You should complete a Premium Payment Authorization (PPA)
form and return it to LAWPRO Customer Service for processing. If changes are to be made to the payment information or

Update Payment form to instantly change your credit card information on record.
A prorated refund would not be available dating back six months. No amendments to a LAWYER'S status can be made, nor any
respective premium refunds issued prior to the receipt of written notification. Appreciating that some LAWYERS may take some time
to file their exemption form, prorated refunds are issued relating to the 30-day period immediately preceding LAWPRO's receipt of
your written notice, and any subsequent period thereafter. As you have the benefit of coverage for this period (and would have
expected any claim reported during this period to be covered in the ordinary course), refunds are not issued further back than 30 days. Please note that any return of premiums arising under the LAWPRO policy is made payable to the original payor, unless otherwise requested by you and original payor in writing.
Although a refund may be issued relating to the 30-day period immediately preceding LAWPRO's receipt of your completed exemption form, regretfully, for those carrying the Real Estate Practice Coverage Option, we are not able to backdate for this 30 day period.
