DIVORCEmate Launches New Precedents+ Separation Agreement Software

Adobe PDF document PDF file for download (Size: 26KB)

September 30, 2003 - Toronto, ON: DIVORCEmate Software Inc. (DIVORCEmate), the leading developer of family law software in Canada, has just released its newest product, Precedents+. This easy-to-use document-assembly software is based on the Law Society's CLE book, "Separation Agreement Annotated" (Epstein, Grant, Sadvari) which has been substantially updated. It allows family law professionals to create a better and more comprehensive separation agreement "draft" in less time.

"The Precedents+ Separation Agreement project is a huge opportunity for DIVORCEmate to bring timely knowledge and information 'off the page' and into the lawyer's mind and electronic environment." says Mark Harris, President, DIVORCEmate Software Inc. "We are excited about this initiative to develop, market, sell and support software based on the wealth of knowledge contained in this book."

Precedents+ will appeal to both lawyers who specialize in family law, and practitioners who don't handle many family law cases. The software uses plain English and is user-friendly. It features: extensive annotations, clear definitions of clauses, easy-to-use checklist format to select clauses, auto merge of common information from Forms+ client file, the ability to add missed clauses and the ability to preview the agreement before word-processor merge.

"From a risk management perspective, this is an extremely useful tool," said Michelle Strom, President and CEO of Lawyers' Professional Indemnity Company (LAWPRO), which contributed expertise and resources to the Precedents+ project. "Many of the claims in family law arise from mistakes in drafting separation agreements. Precedents+ uses the expertise of senior family law practitioners to help lawyers draft better agreements, and in turn reduce their exposure to risk."

Since "Separation Agreement Annotated" was published in 2002, the editors have made substantial and substantive changes to many sections. These changes to the original text are as a result of recent court decisions or further review, re-editing and re-organizing. Says Harris, "The release of Precedents+ Separation Agreement software is an important step in helping lawyers provide better service to their clients. We believe that proactive software solutions, which guide and educate the user, complement LAWPRO's loss prevention initiatives for the family law profession."

Precedents+ will be available to registered Forms+ 2003 users at $349.00 ($52.35 per additional user) until December 31, 2003. After January 1, 2004, the cost will be $399.00 ($59.85 per additional user). The cost for new users is $599.00 ($89.85 per additional user) until December 31, 2003 and $699 thereafter. DIVORCEmate is ready to ship orders of Precedents+ beginning September 30, 2003. To order, visit www.divorcemate.com.
