  • LAWPRO base premium stable for fifth consecutive year (Sept. 24, 2014)
    Strong financial results and a moderating claims count have allowed LAWPRO to hold the base premium for the mandatory insurance program at $3,350 for the fifth consecutive year. 2015 marks 20 years of LAWPRO operating primary insurance program.

    A.M. Best Co. has awarded Lawyers’ Professional Indemnity Company (LAWPRO) a financial strength rating of A (Excellent) and an issuer credit rating of "a" for the fourteenth consecutive time. In addition, A.M. Best Co. gave LAWPRO a "stable" outlook for the third year in a row.

LAWPRO partners with Manitoba insurance broker

Toronto, June 29, 2004: Reider Insurance Services, a Manitoba insurance brokerage firm, and LAWPRO will be working in association to bring the TitlePLUS title insurance product to the Manitoba real estate marketplace.

TitlePLUS title insurance provides comprehensive title protection for consumers when they buy property, refinance a mortgage or borrow money secured against a residential home. Partnering with Reider Insurance ensures that consumers seeking TitlePLUS title insurance coverage for their transactions can do so quickly and easily.

Lawyers in Manitoba will be able to secure TitlePLUS title insurance coverage for his or her clients by contacting Reider Insurance Services at any of its four Winnipeg locations.

Reider is an independent insurance brokerage, founded in 1966 and still owned and operated as a family business by members of the Reider family. The company provides Manitoba consumers with a full range of insurance products and services, including auto, home, tenant and business insurance.

LAWPRO is a wholly Canadian-owned insurance company providing lawyers' malpractice insurance and title insurance in numerous jurisdictions across Canada. The TitlePLUS program provides consumers and lenders with comprehensive title insurance coverage for residential home purchases, and refinance/mortgage-only transactions. Specifically it provides coverage for title-related problems that could affect the ownership or marketability of the property in the future, as well as for the legal services provided by the lawyer closing the transaction.

The TitlePLUS policy also insures against many of the risks that normally would be beyond the scope of the lawyer's opinion - issues such as fraud, forgery, survey errors, the absence of an up-to-date survey and errors made by governments. If a problem with title surfaces after the deal has closed, or if it is discovered that the lawyer made an error or omission, the insurer either:

  • pays to rectify the problem (for example, moving a garage off a neighbour's property line) or,
  • compensates the appropriate parties for up to the full value of the title insurance policy.
Since its launch in 1997, the TitlePLUS program has become a mainstay of real estate practice in Ontario, and is now available in all provinces except Quebec.
